Social media is a key tool for marketing and advertising. It is a free and cost-effective way to reach your target audience. Social media sites like Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter have over 2 billion active users and it's time you got your piece of the pie. Below are 5 tricks to increase your following over time.
1. Engage organically and authentically
Organic growth is the process of gaining followers on social media without paying for ads. The best way to do this is by engaging with your target audience every day or at least every other day. But where do you find them? Well, what hashtags are they using? Use the search tab in Instagram to search relevant hashtags your target audience uses, follow that hashtag so that you see the posts daily, and start liking and commenting on them. Be authentic, read their captions, and give compliments where appropriate. Repost their content to your feed or stories, this will cause them to come back and engage with you and maybe result in a few daily or weekly followers.
2. Post more often
If you don't have a consistent posting schedule, this can hurt your engagement rate. For example, if you post once a week, take it up a notch by posting three times per week. In between your posts, add stories and use stickers in your stories to interact with your audience. Instagram will push your posts higher in the algorithm when they see that you have consistent content.
3. Boost a popular post for $5 for 5 days
I use this strategy when I have monthly social media sabbaticals. Yes, I highly recommend a break every now and then! 🤪 But what happens when you haven't been engaging for a while? Your engagement rate will go down and the algorithm will be like a ghost town, unfortunately. So while you're gone, you can boost a post for the amount of time you're gone to generate some engagement and it may also result in daily followers.
4. Influencers - leverage other people's audience by sponsoring them with financial incentives
Influencer marketing is a powerful tool that every business should leverage. It can help you reach your target audience and increase your sales. However, not all influencer campaigns are successful. 5. Cross-promote across other social media channels
Does your audience on Facebook know about your content on Instagram? Your content is supposed to be slightly different across platforms, so if you post different things, encourage your FB audience to follow on IG. You can also add those links to the Facebook bio.
